In arguably one of the most important meetings of his papacy so far, Pope Leo Thursday stressed the importance of striving for unity and told cardinals there was no room for private agendas.

Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday opened a new phase of his pontificate by gathering the world’s cardinals to Rome and asking them to advise him on key priorities for the next two years.

Speaking at his General Audience on Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV said the Vatican II ecumenical council has “prophetic and contemporary relevance.”
